A candidate in the Velidhoo constituency of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) internal election has alleged that the voters' list was manipulated during yesterday's vote.
Janah Musthafa, who ran for Velidhoo constituency President, has submitted an official complaint to the party. PNC has reportedly accepted his complaint but did not provide details.
In a post on Facebook, Janah said the issues with voters' list could potentially affect the results. He said that 31 additional names were found to be on the list compared to the list officially publicized on the party website.
He added that his team cannot accept the result due to the issue.
In another incident, two rival candidates assaulted each other at the polling station in Thaa Kandoodhoo island.
Kandoodhoo council President Ahmed Reehan said one of the candidates had damaged the ballot box and taken the ballot papers to his home.
PNC Chairperson and Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla announced that the issue in Kandoddhoo was resolved last night.
