Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim has been suspended from his position as the constituency’s president within the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) Senate.
Senior members of the PNC confirmed to Adhadhu that Nazim, who also served as the Deputy Speaker of Parliament until May 31, has been suspended from his party leadership role.
Nazim resigned from his post as Deputy Speaker just moments before a scheduled parliamentary vote on his removal. The motion for his dismissal had been submitted with the signatures of 73 PNC MPs.
The resolution submitted by the PNC to Parliament accused Nazim of "leaning towards a specific political ideology" and attempting to disrupt the harmony of the legislature.
Nazim has denied the allegations, saying that no MP had previously raised complaints regarding any action or omission by him, either as Deputy Speaker or as an MP, that violated the Constitution or the Parliament’s Standing Orders.
