Two foreigners have been arrested in Hulhumale' for running unregistered businesses during the national operation by the Maldives Immigration, Maldives Police Service and Maldives Customs Service.
Two Bangladeshi nationals, MD Shamim Mia, 37, and Alauddin, 22, were arrested in the operation.
Police said they were arrested on suspicion of conducting illegal businesses without permission.
"During the search, a large number of cigarettes and tobacco packets were recovered from the suspects, along with a large amount of Rufiyaa and Dollars," police said.
The national operation was launched by the police to monitor the activities of undocumented foreigners, stop illegal businesses conducted by such people and prevent criminal offences.
The three-phase operation, which began on Monday, will also track down and take action against those who help foreigners do business illegally.
