Police have returned the mobile phone and electronic devices of social media activist Thayyib Shaheem after 17 days and 11 hours.
In a post on X, Thayyib said he had cooperated fully with the police investigation and that the police had worked very professionally.
"I have given my full cooperation to the investigation team and I note that the investigation team worked professionally and respectfully," he wrote.
Police accuse Thayyib of forging a document and circulating the forged document. The document in concern is a statement allegedly taken in the case of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption scandal.
Thayyib said everything in life in these modern times depends on phones and other online and offline applications. He claimed that the seizure of his phone caused him irreparable damage and disrupted his life and work.
It must be noted that police previously cloned Thayyib's SIM card during the government of former President Abdulla Yameen. This was facilitated by Dhiraagu with a court order.
Thayyib has more than 51,500 followers on X and is critical towards the government. He was the Senior Executive Director of the Tourism Ministry in the previous government.
