President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih appealed to the public on Tuesday to renounce jealousy and division and to promote unity.
He made the call in his message commemorating the Islamic New Year 1445.
Solih called on the public to learn from the invaluable lessons of Hijra and to reflect on the significance of the journey and its teachings as a means of personal and societal growth.
He extended greetings and sincere wishes for the Islamic New Year to the Maldivian people, leaders of Islamic nations, and Islamic organisations.
He highlighted the significance of Hijra, where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Muslims migrated from Mecca to Medina in search of happiness and tranquillity.
He emphasised that peace in Medina allowed the Muslim community to flourish and called for reflection on the lessons of Hijra during the Islamic New Year.
Solih urged Maldivians to build the nation on a foundation of peace and harmony, leaving a legacy of economic and social prosperity for future generations.
He underscored the importance of prioritising national interests above all else.
