Two of the five individuals injured in a collision in Hulhumalé Phase 2 have been discharged, while two others remain in critical condition on ventilator support in the Intensive Care Unit, according to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
The accident occurred when a motorcycle carrying three people crashed into another vehicle while attempting to evade police.
IGMH confirmed that out of the three patients previously admitted to the general ward, two have been released following treatment.
"Of the three patients admitted to the ward following the Hulhumalé accident, two have been discharged. The remaining two patients are currently being treated on ventilators," an IGMH official stated.
Reports indicate that one of the two patients currently on life support has suffered a brain hemorrhage.
The family of the victims who were traveling on the motorcycle operating within traffic regulations has called for a thorough investigation and full transparency regarding the incident. They urged authorities not to treat this as a routine traffic accident.
According to the police, the motorcycle carrying three people was travelling against the flow of traffic on a one-way street at the time of the crash. Preliminary investigations suggest the vehicle may have been stolen, and police confirmed that the operator did not possess a valid driver's license.
Sources further reveal that the individual driving the motorcycle against traffic has an extensive criminal record and has been previously arrested on multiple occasions for various offences.
