Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Shifan has been removed from his position as the official spokesperson for the Maldives Police Service.
While the police have not disclosed the reason for Shifan's removal, they have confirmed that Superintendent of Police Ahmed Arif has been appointed as the new official spokesperson.
Shifan’s removal comes amid serious allegations against him, including cases of corruption involving both Shifan and Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikree, as well as accusations of misconduct, abuse of power, and attempts to frame two senior police officers.
Reliable sources have confirmed to Adhadhu that, in addition to his role as spokesperson, Shifan was briefly appointed to lead several other departments recently.
These included the Commissioner’s Bureau and the Service Development Directorate. However, he was removed from the leadership of both departments within an hour of his appointment.
Shifan previously served as the police spokesperson during former President Abdulla Yameen’s administration. He was reappointed to the role under the current administration on February 18, 2024.
