The Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into a police officer accused of sexually abusing his child.
According to information obtained by Adhadhu, the officer allegedly abused his 15-year-old child. Sources indicate that authorities have recorded statements from the victim and other family members.
"A case involving allegations of sexual abuse against a minor by an individual in a position of trust was reported to the police on June 1, 2026," the police confirmed.
The criminal investigation is currently being conducted by the Family and Child Protection Department. The Professional Standards Command—the internal body responsible for investigating misconduct and ethical violations within the force—is handling the administrative probe into the officer.
The police have not yet disclosed whether the officer has been suspended or if any other disciplinary actions have been taken while the investigation remains ongoing.
Sexual abuse of minors carries severe legal penalties under Maldivian law. The gravity of such offenses is further compounded when the perpetrator holds a position of authority or is in a position of trust relative to the child.
