Muaz Haleem has resigned from his position as the Secretary General of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC).

Muaz announced his resignation in a post on social media X. His departure comes amid a series of internal changes following the government's significant setbacks in recent elections.

Explaining his decision, Muaz wrote: "To provide full cooperation to the robust efforts initiated by the Party President and the President of the Republic to strengthen the party's administration, align its activities with the pulse of the people, and transform it into a party capable of achieving complete results."

He further noted that he decided to step down, as he believes it is important for the role of Secretary General to be held by someone who can dedicate more time to the position.

Muaz was appointed as the Secretary General of the PNC in January last year.

According to the PNC’s charter, the Secretary General must be appointed by the Party Council, which serves as the party's executive governing body.

The charter mandates that the Secretary General is responsible for the administrative management of the party and also serves as a member of the Party Council.
