The state expenditure on salaries have increased by MVR 400 million per month under the current administration, former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said.
Speaking at a campaign event for the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in Fuvahmulah last night (March 27), Solih said his government spent MVR 900 million each month on salaries.
"We are spending MVR 400 million more a month on salaries compared to the MVR 900 million in our government. We are spending an additional MVR 4.8 billion a year," he said.
Solih said the government does not intend to cut costs by merging the presidential and parliamentary elections.
The candidates who carry the policy of President Mohamed Muizzu will not bring development to the islands, he said.
"A person who comes out with Muizzu's policy cannot bring development to an island."
