Maldive Gas controls cooking gas sales

The state-owned Maldive Gas has controlled the cooking gas sales by reducing the amount filled into cylinders starting today.

Maldive Gas is selling 10kg of cylinders with 5kg of gas. The company has also stopped taking new customers.

“A 10kg bottle will cost MVR 100 with 5kg of gas,” a company official told Adhadhu.

Maldive Gas has not officially commented on the matter.

In early February, Maldive Gas controlled gas sales and reduced the amount of gas added to cylinders. In January, the company ran out of its gas shipment.

Villa Gas supplied gas to Maldive Gas at the time due to difficulties encountered in importing gas by the State Trading Organisation (STO).

The new measure comes amid a global shortage in oil and gas due to the ongoing war in the Middle East.
