Maldive Gas ex-Managing Director jailed for 12 years

Former Managing Director of Maldive Gas Abdulla Maumoon has been sentenced to 12 years and nine months in prison for accepting bribes.

Maumoon was the Managing Director of Maldives Gas in 2016 during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen.

The state pressed seven charges against him for allegedly taking bribes. He was convicted of two of the charges during a hearing on Monday.

He was charged on April 24, 2024, in connection with seven transactions in which 3DH International deposited money to Maumoon, his companies and his family members on various occasions after the company was awarded the contract to purchase liquid petroleum for Maldive Gas.

The Prosecutor General's (PG) office said USD 298,403.5 was deposited into the accounts.
