The parliament's Public Accounts Committee has approved recommending the suspension of several senior police officers, including Police Commissioner Ismail Naveen, Assistant Police Commissioner Mohamed Dhawood and Superintendent of Police Ismail Shameem Adam.
The committee passed the resolution at a closed-door meeting on Wednesday.
Adhadhu understands that the committee passed a report on the Police Cooperative Society (Polco) corruption during the meeting.
The recommendations in the report include looking into some other cases unrelated to the Polco corruption and recommending the suspension of several executive-level officers.
The committee approved action against:
- Police Commissioner Ismail Naveen
- Assistant Commissioner of Police, Moosa Ali
- Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Abdul Rahman
- Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Rasheed (Monsi)
- Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Basheer
- Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Dhawood
- Superintendent of Police, Ismail Shameem Adam
The committee investigated Dhawood and Shameem in connection with a confidential letter sent by a whistleblower. Shameem is the Head of Police Intelligence.
The matter is expected to be on the agenda for today's parliament session.
