Police have launched an investigation after an 18-year-old woman was allegedly kidnapped and beaten inside a house in Male'.
Police told the media that the incident was reported at 6:00 pm on November 18.
Police did not say whether the young woman was a Maldivian or a foreign national, and did not provide details of her injuries.
Police also did not reveal whether any suspects had been arrested. But they said further investigation was ongoing.
Earlier on October 17, police said an investigation was underway after a 24-year-old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted in Male'.
The woman sought police assistance on the street on the evening of November 16. Police officers helped transport her to the hospital.
Officials from Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) reported the sexual assault to the police after medically evaluating the woman.
So far, no arrests have been made in connection with the assault. Police briefed the media about the incident after reports surfaced on social media.
