Male' Maldives: Odi Sports Club has officially appointed Spanish coach Andrés García as their new head coach, as the club prepares for its first-ever season in the Maldives top-tier football league.
García, who holds a UEFA Pro License, brings a wealth of experience from both Asia and Europe, making him one of the most high-profile coaches in current Maldivian club football.
Expressing his excitement upon arrival, García thanked Odi for placing their trust in him.
"First of all, I want to thank the club for giving me confidence and responsibility. When Odi called me, I felt this was a very ambitious project. I consider myself a winner, and I like challenges," García said.
With a coaching career that has taken him across 10 countries, García believes his time in the Maldives will be a valuable chapter both for him and the club.
"This is my 10th country, and I came here because I am a challenger. Together, we can achieve something special. I’m here to make the club better, but I also believe the club will make me better. From day one, Odi has provided me with everything I need to work 100 percent, and the players have responded well. I am very happy to be here," he added.
The Spaniard praised the Maldives’ First Division as a strong and competitive league, noting that adapting quickly is crucial for success.
"The staff and players are working hard to adapt to me. There is no time to waste – it’s time to fight for this club and to succeed together. A team promoted twice consecutively, from the Third Division to the Premier League, now competing against the biggest clubs in the country, is no small task. The club has asked me to compete for everything, and I will try my best to deliver," García emphasized.
Odi’s assistant coach, Ahmed Farrah (Farra), expressed full confidence in García’s appointment, describing him as a key figure for the continuity of the club.
"Andrés is a very high-profile coach. His experience is a huge improvement for both our coaching staff and players. We have complete confidence that he will lead us to success," Farrah stated.
Odi Sports Club also confirmed improvements in squad depth since the League Cup, with four foreign signings expected to join the squad next week, further strengthening the team ahead of their Premier League debut.
With García at the helm, Odi Sports Club enters the new season with renewed ambition, determined to prove themselves among the elite of Maldivian football.
