Male' Maldives: Odi’s remarkable debut season in the top division has been guided by head coach García, a UEFA Pro Licence holder whose experience across Asia and Europe has made him one of the most respected coaches in Maldivian club football.
Under his leadership, Odi have lost just once in 10 matches, a narrow defeat to Maziya, while drawing against Club Eagles and winning their remaining eight games.
Maziya Sports and Recreation remain firmly in control of the Dhiraagu Dhivehi Premier League, leading the standings with 30 points from 10 matches, while Odi Sports Club continue their impressive pursuit in second place on 25 points. New Radiant Sports Club sit third with 20 points, as the league prepares for an increasingly competitive second round.
Speaking exclusively to Adhadhu Sports, García praised his players for exceeding expectations.
“No team in the history of the league has achieved these results in their first year in the top division,” he said.
“That shows how well the club has been performing and how quickly the players understood the ideas I wanted to transmit.”

He added that the squad’s immediate belief in his philosophy was crucial: “I thought they would need more time to adapt, but they believed in me from day one, and that has been one of the keys to our success.”
García highlighted Odi’s collective approach as a defining strength, particularly when competing against more established clubs.
“From the beginning, we knew that if we wanted to compete with the big teams, we had to do it as a team,” he explained.
“We don’t have the same individual quality as some clubs, but if we work together and create our own identity, we can compete against anyone. And if we lose, it must be with our own style, always offensive and brave.”
Turning his attention to the mid-season transfer window, García acknowledged the impact of new signings across the league.
“All teams are strengthening significantly, with more foreign players arriving and raising the overall level,” he said.
Odi have already added four local players to their squad, and García believes their integration has been smooth.
“They know they must perform from day one. Their adaptation has been excellent, but we still hope to add a few more players before the window closes.”
With Odi trailing leaders Maziya by five points, García expects a tougher battle in the second round.
“I’ve told the players that the second half of the season is like a new league,” he said.
“Everyone wants to win, everyone feels the pressure, and all teams are stronger now. If we want to stay at the top, we can’t lower our intensity, we have to keep going the same way.”
Odi’s next fixture is against United Victory next Friday evening.
