An employee of Physio Clinic in Hulhumale' has assaulted an autistic boy with a pair of scissors.
Police confirmed they were investigating a complaint "of behaving in such a way that a child could be physically harmed" after he was taken for a therapy session.
The case was reported to police on Children's Day, celebrated in the Maldives on May 10. However, the date of the incident is unclear.
A video of the incident is now circulating on social media. The video shows an employee using scissors to confront the child. A photograph showed wounds on the child's body.
An Instagram page for Physio Clinic said three employees involved in the case had been fired immediately. The clinic said the incident was reported to the police and CCTV footage was given to the police.
The clinic has decided to temporarily shut down following the incident.
