Police have not arrested a suspect who left the scene after a woman fell from the ninth floor of a building on April 18.

Police declined to release the identity of the 21-year-old man. But they told the press that the victim is a 21-year-old Hawwa Yumnu.

According to the police, she fell from a ninth-floor window in the stairwell of Henveiru Fentenoy house.

Police claimed she was accompanied by only one person at the time of the incident.

At a press conference on Tuesday night, they showed CCTV video footage of Yumnu and the man inside the stairwell of the building.

Police said the victim and the suspect did not have any connection to the house and it is unclear why they were inside the building.

Police believe they were heavily intoxicated and went into the building at dawn, where they were engaged in sexual behaviour.

Police said Yumnu climbed up the stairs to the ninth floor by herself, but there were no CCTV cameras on the stairwell of the ninth floor.

She fell from a window on the ninth floor and landed on top of the roof of a two-story warehouse next to the building.

According to the police, the CCTV camera on the eighth floor had captured the noise of her landing and showed the man at the stairwell of the eighth floor.

Police said the man was seen crying and looking for Yumnu after she fell. Police also said he asked people on the road about her as well.

The man was not wearing a shirt and people could not understand what he was saying because he was intoxicated, police said.

After that, the man left the scene without informing the authorities or asking for help. Police said Yumnu was wearing the man's t-shirt when she was found on the roof.

It is unclear what happened to her clothes that night. She fell at around 4:52 am and she was found and taken to the hospital at 7:30 am.

Police have not arrested the man for leaving the scene after the incident, but they have seized his passport to prevent him from leaving the country.

Yumnu is currently being treated in the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). She was disconnected from the ventilator on Tuesday, but remains in critical condition.
