Hamdhy Ageel has been sacked as the President of the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB).

A senior government official confirmed his dismissal to Adhadhu. However, he did not say the reason for the dismissal.

Another official said Hamdhy was sacked because of his close relationship with parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla.

Abdul Raheem lived in Hamdhy's family home when he first moved to Male' from his home island Laamu Fonadhoo.

The PCB established in 2013 focuses on the privatization, corporatization, monitoring, and evaluation of government businesses, aiming to increase profitability, socio-economic value, and promote corporate good governance.

Hamdhy was appointed as the President of PCB during the first week of the current administration.

On Wednesday, PCB issued a circular to companies about the Ramadan allowance and to reduce costs.

Hamdhy's dismissal comes amid worsening relations between President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem.

Several people close to Abdul Raheem have been sacked in recent days, including his son former Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal.
