Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer has met with officials of Saudi Arabia's Investment Ministry during his ongoing official visit to the country.

In a post on X, the Foreign Ministry said Zameer met Assistant Minister Ibrahim Bin Yousef Almubarak and a team from the ministry.

"Discussed investment opportunities in the Maldives. Minister Zameer expressed his gratitude for the support provided by Saudi Arabia in the socio-economic development of Maldives," the post stated.

The Foreign Ministry said Zameer also met with the Deputy Finance Minister for International Relations Khalid Bawazier.

Their discussions were focused on enhancing "trade and tourism cooperation" and the "expansion of investments between the two countries."

Zameer also met the Governor of the Central Bank of Saudi Arabia Ayman Al-Sayari and briefed him about the country's economic situation.

The meetings come amid a worsening economic and financial crisis as the country's foreign currency reserves decline.

Earlier, Zameer met Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud in Riyadh and presented a letter from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

The Foreign Minister began his official visit to Saudi Arabia after visiting Bahrain and meeting with the country's leaders and the leaders of Dhiraagu's majority shareholder, Batelco. Zameer also took a letter from the President to the King of Bahrain. A few days earlier, he had visited China and presented a letter from the President.
