Moosa Zameer has said that despite his resignation as Finance Minister, he remains steadfastly aligned with the vision of President Mohamed Muizzu and the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC).
Speaking at a PNC rally last night, Zameer, who resigned from his ministerial post on Monday, affirmed that he remains ready to undertake any responsibilities assigned to him by Muizzu in the future.
"I stand firmly with President Muizzu. I am here to carry out the work he entrusts to me and to advance this party and its ideology," Zameer said.
"I will not disappear from the scene; I will always remain with this party and the productive vision of President Muizzu."
Zameer clarified that his decision to step down as Finance Minister was due to health reasons.
Zameer explained that given the current fragility of the global economy, he did not believe it was right to remain in office while knowing his health condition would prevent him from fulfilling his duties for an extended period.
"In such a situation, I should not hold onto the position if my health requires me to step away for a long time," Zameer said. "That would not be doing right by the party."
In President Muizzu’s inaugural cabinet, Zameer was appointed as the Foreign Minister. During a period of strained relations between India and the Maldives, Zameer played a pivotal role in efforts to mend and strengthen those ties.
He was appointed as Finance Minister on September 30, 2024. During his tenure, he oversaw financial milestones, including the successful repayment of a USD 500 million Sukuk.
