The family of a Maldivian man who was found dead in Bangkok has raised suspicions surrounding his death.
Muawiyath Moosa from Thaa Thimarafushi was found dead on August 4. His body was buried on August 7 after a post-mortem.
A person from Muawiyath's family told Adhadhu that the three photos shared by the Foreign Ministry showed wounds on his body.
The family especially highlighted that one leg was missing.
"The ministry sent three photos of the body while at the hall of the hospital. We didn't notice anything when the photos were first sent. But when we looked at the photos later, we noticed that the right leg was missing. The next photo was a closeup of the face. We are sure that he had been attacked with a sharp object to his face and neck," the person said.
When the complaints were shared with the Foreign Ministry, officials said they believed the injuries were inflicted at the time of the post-mortem. However, the family allege such wounds would not be sustained to the face and neck and legs would not be removed during the post-mortem.
A post-mortem is a surgical procedure that consists of a thorough examination of a corpse by dissection to determine the cause, mode, and manner of death. The post-mortem reports will be prepared by analyzing the internal organs.
The family further complained as the Foreign Ministry did not share a photo of the scene where his body was found. Later, the family requested the police, and the photo was provided.
Police said the death occurred abroad and the case will be investigated by the country, but the family has concerns and police are clarifying the matter.
Muawiyath's family says he went to Thailand late last month without informing the family and while his passport was hidden. The family did not know that he had obtained a new passport.
If a passport is lost, a new one can be obtained by filing a complaint with the police and investigating the matter. The new passport will be issued after submitting a letter from the police to Immigration and paying a fine.
"It is very worrying that Muawiyath went there and this happened. The family wants to know who took Muawiyath there. He did not go to work and lived on the island. We hid his passport because he said he was going abroad," the family said.
