PSM news head exempted from education criteria

The Public Service Media (PSM) has exempted the director of news and current affairs from the educational qualifications required of other department heads.

PSM's organizational and salary structure was changed last week. With the change, a person with journalism experience was made eligible to become a news head without any educational certificates.

The criteria for department heads in the schedule of PSM's organizational and salary structure include a certificate of level nine in the Maldives National Qualifications Framework and at least five years of managerial level experience in a related field.

Alternately, applicants must have certificates of levels eight or nine with at least eight years of managerial level experience in a related field.

However, the new regulations state that the post of director of news and current affairs would be exempted from the above conditions.

The criteria for the director of news and current affairs is eight years of experience as an editor or 12 years of experience in journalism.

When asked about the amendments brought to PSM's regulations, the company's media official told Adhadhu that the changes were made to strengthen PSM's operations after a review of internal rules. The regulations were changed by a decision of the company's board of directors, the official noted.
