The government has decided to postpone the night events of the "Dhiveheenge Raajje festival" planned to celebrate New Year.
The Youth Ministry planned to hold a music festival with a laser show and fireworks on December 31 to mark the start of the New Year.
The festival will also include an early evening event for children and families.
However, the ministry said in an announcement that the Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a yellow alert for the entire country.
The ministry announced that the festival's night events have been postponed due to transportation difficulties for those coming from the islands.
A new date for the events will be announced when the weather improves, the announcement stated.
Previous governments have held music shows under different names to celebrate the New Year and faced criticism from some groups within the community.
