Ibrahim Saeed (Cade) has been sacked from his government job less than 24 hours after he condemned the leader of the ruling party's parliamentary group Ibrahim Falah for saying that some journalists should be killed by impalement.
Cade was the Senior Political Director of the Ministry of Sports. The President's Office sent a letter earlier today informing him of his dismissal.
Cade condemned Falah's remarks in a Facebook post. He called for an investigation into the Inguraidhoo MP and criticised the ruling People's National Congress (PNC). He also said journalists will not be afraid of threats.
Meanwhile, Information Minister Ibrahim Waheed (Asward) today refused to condemn Falah's remarks.
Speaking during the parliament debate on the bill to dismantle free press, Falah said some media outlets had spread false news about him in the past and called for media personnel of such outlets to be impaled.
"When they work at this level, the media should not be taken to jail; they should be impaled. Impaled!," he said.
Falah said the media lied about him being homosexual. But no media outlets reported the issue. Posts about the speculation were circulated only on social media platforms.
