Public Service Media (PSM) has resumed providing equipment to Sangu TV, formerly operated by Youth Minister Ibrahim Waheed (Asward), despite the station owing MVR 900,000 to PSM.
Sangu TV owes PSM more than MVR 954,000 for rented equipment. PSM has filed the case in the Civil Court and the former PSM board decided to stop providing equipment to Sangu TV.
PSM Managing Director Zeena Zahir said the company was acting in accordance with the procedures and that equipment had been leased to Sangu TV twice since she assumed the position.
"PSM has previously leased equipment to some channels in accordance with the procedures. Since I took over, the equipment was leased twice as a service," she said.
However, some sources say the decision to resume providing equipment to Sangu TV was in violation of procedures. But Zeena denied the allegation.
“I have not received any information that equipment is being issued in contravention of the procedures,” Zeena said.
The case in the Civil Court is stalled due to the absence of Sangu TV and some other issues. Sangu TV was summoned to appear in court 25 times but appeared only twice.
