The list of flat recipients in the "Gedhoruveriyaa" scheme will be reviewed, Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed has said.
The list was published after a complaint was lodged with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) alleging plans to unlawfully hand out 4,000 flats.
As the ACC has ordered the awarding flats to be suspended for now, the process has been halted until further instruction from the commission.
"The flats allocated after the presidential election first round, we will review whether they [flats] were given to the right people," Haidar said.
"After winning the presidential election, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu urged the outgoing government to suspend the allocation of any land or flats."
He said the previous government had not respected the request.
The Fehi Dhiriulhun Corporation has been building 32 towers with 18 floors each in Hulhumale' phase two for the housing scheme.
The towers include 1,200 two-bedroom units and 2,800 three-bedroom units. Work is now nearing completion on the apartments.
The monthly rent for the three-bedroom flats is MVR 8,000, inclusive of an MVR 1,000 maintenance fee. Rent for the two-bedroom flats is MVR 6,000 with an MVR 1,000 maintenance fee.
Residents would have to start paying rent three months after the flats are handed over. The rent would be collected for 300 months.
