The People's Majlis has kicked out an emergency motion raising concern about the delays in handing over 4000 flats in the Gedhoruveriya housing scheme.
Housing Minister Abdullah Muththalib had previously said that agreements would be signed with the first 4,000 flat recipients before the end of June.
The emergency motion proposed by Galolhu North MP Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudu) noted that the agreements had not been signed as promised by the minister.
But Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla rejected the motion and said the issue mentioned in the motion did not happen within the past seven days.
"The parliament's rules state that the issue mentioned in the emergency motion must have happened suddenly or within the past seven days," Abdul Raheem stated.
"The matter referred by the Honourable MP does not meet the above conditions and therefore the matter cannot be moved as an emergency motion."
The motion proposed a debate in parliament as the delays in handing over the flats were a matter of public concern.
