Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has signed agreements with more than 3,000 of the first flat recipients of the Gedhoruveriya (house owner) scheme under the previous government's housing policy.
In a post on social media, the company said agreements had been signed with 3,032 flat recipients. The previous government awarded flats to 4000 applicants under the Gedhoruveriya scheme.
Flat recipients will get ownership of the flats after paying rent to FDC for 25 years. The government said the measure was imposed to facilitate action against those who do not pay rent.
The monthly rent for a two-bedroom flat is MVR 7,000 with a maintenance fee of MVR 1,000. The monthly rent for a three-bedroom flat is MVR 9,000 with a maintenance fee of MVR 1,500.
The rent must be paid before the 10th of each month. FDC warned that the amount would be higher with fines if it is paid after the 10th of each month.
The security deposit for a two-bedroom flat is MVR 15,000, while the security deposit for a three-bedroom flat is MVR 25,000.
