Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed retired from the police service with honor on Wednesday.
Home Minister Sheikh Imran Abdulla was the chief guest at the retirement ceremony.
The ceremony was also attended by First Lady Fazna Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner of Police Abdul Mannaan Yoosuf, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ali Rasheed, the U.S. representative in the Maldives, other diplomats based in the country, representatives from foreign law enforcement agencies, executive officers and commissioned officers of the Maldives police and the outgoing commissioner's family members.
Hameed thanked those who provided assistance for various tasks at different levels during his time as a police officer, noting his work with officers of various ranks since he first joined the service.
All police officers have shown courage and determination in their work, Hameed said, urging all employees to uphold the honor and dignity of the institution.
Hameed said he would always remain in the front ranks in the effort to ensure that the Maldives is a low-crime and peaceful country.
At the ceremony, Hameed was presented with a commemorative plaque, retirement card and the police flag.
The plaque, which is presented to commissioners who retire with honor, includes his colors, medals, items in the commissioner's uniform and a police identification card.
The retirement card is provided to all police officers who retire with honor. It can be used as an identification card to enter police stations and receive benefits and services offered to police officers.
The police flag was presented to Hameed as a symbolic recognition of his invaluable service to the Maldives Police Service.
