The Criminal Court on Monday sentenced a man to six months in prison for lying about his identity after he was arrested for theft and taken to the police station.
It was the third sentence handed down to the man this month. All three charges stemmed from incidents that occurred on the same day.
Mohamed Shaheen was arrested from Vilimale' in December 2022 after he was held by members of the public over an alleged theft.
But he gave the identity of another person when he was taken to the police station. He was sentenced today on an identity fraud charge.
Shaheen also escaped from the Vilimale' police station after he was detained. He was previously sentenced to three months for the escape.
Shaheen fled after he was taken out to a yard where inmates exercise. He was allowed to exercise after complaining of difficulty in breathing.
After he was found and arrested again, Shaheen destroyed a security camera at the police station. He was sentenced to 27 days for the property damage.
