Some 600 complaints have been submitted so far about the provisional list of recipients of land plots under the government's 'Binveriyaa' housing scheme.
State Minister for Housing Akram Kamaludeen, chair of the housing schemes committee, said there were no serious complaints among the 600 received so far. The most common complaint sought to clarify information, he added.
"There are about 600 [complaints]. There weren't any serious complaints. It was mostly for seeking information," Akram said.
A total of 15,164 applications had been submitted on behalf of 23,088 people for plots of land under the 'Binveriyaa' scheme. Including joint and individual submissions, there were 10,314 people on the list of recipients. Some 12,794 submissions on behalf of 19,857 people were deemed eligible.
The list of recipients of plots to be awarded from the Male' region under the 'Binveriyaa' scheme was made public with a deadline of July 15 to submit complaints.
While requests for information were common among the complaints submitted so far, the government had not disclosed the criteria for scoring and evaluating applications.
Akram said points were awarded based on metrics such as the size of the family and the size of the residence and details would be explained upon request, he added. However, no document with the number of points to be awarded under specific criteria was published.
Plots are to be handed out under the 'Binveriyaa' scheme from both Hulhumale' and newly-reclaimed land in Gulhi Falhu and Giraavaru Falhu.
The government plans to award 2200 plots from Hulhumale' and 2000 plots each from Gulhi Falhu and Giraavaru Falhu.
