An agreement was signed yesterday to provide Chinese assistance for the construction of 500 housing units in Male'.
Under the agreement signed by the Housing Ministry during an event in Beijing, China will provide an interest-free loan to facilitate the construction of these housing units.
The signing took place on the sidelines of the Global Action for Shared Development conference.
Additionally, the government stated that discussions were held during the conference regarding the progress of various grant-aided projects currently being undertaken by China in the Maldives.
An agreement had previously been signed to redevelop the roads of Male' under Chinese grant assistance. However, work on that project is yet to commence.
While the Chinese-funded road project remains pending, the government has begun redeveloping segments of Boduthakurufaanu road independently.
