Maldives’ fastest athlete and most decorated individual athlete, Hassan Saaid, is preparing to represent the country at his fifth Asian Games, marking another milestone in a sporting journey spanning nearly two decades.
At 34, Saaid is approaching the later stages of his multi-sport event career, raising the possibility that the Aichi–Nagoya Asian Games 2026 could be his final appearance at the continental sporting event.
However, his focus remains on challenging his own limits and continuing to represent the Maldives on one of the biggest stages in sport.
Saaid’s Asian Games journey began in Guangzhou, China, in 2010, and has continued across four subsequent editions. His participation at Aichi–Nagoya will make it five Asian Games appearances, reflecting his longevity, commitment and sustained contribution to Maldivian athletics.

Hassan Saaid’s Asian Games Journey
Saaid’s five-edition Asian Games journey includes:
- 2010 — Guangzhou, China
- 2014 — Incheon, South Korea
- 2018 — Jakarta–Palembang, Indonesia
- 2023 — Hangzhou, China
- 2026 — Aichi–Nagoya, Japan
Each edition has represented a different stage of his athletic career, offering new experiences and valuable lessons while strengthening his connection to representing the Maldives.
Reflecting on the significance of reaching his fifth Asian Games, Saaid described the journey as an immense source of pride.
“It is an immense source of pride to have had the opportunity to take part in five Asian Games, spanning a journey of nearly two decades.”
Looking back at his career, Saaid said every Asian Games had provided a different experience and contributed to his development as an athlete.
“Since 2010, every Asian Games has brought a different experience and taught me valuable lessons at different stages of my career. Each edition has shaped me in its own way and added to the journey.”
Continuing to Challenge His Limits
Despite approaching the end of his multi-sport event career, Saaid remains focused on performance and personal improvement. Rather than looking solely at the significance of another appearance, the veteran sprinter is determined to push his capabilities and compete with the same pride that has defined his international career.
“Today, it is about pushing the limits of my capabilities, continuing to challenge myself, and carrying the pride of representing the Maldives on one of the biggest stages in sport.”
Saaid is scheduled to compete in the men’s 100-metre event and the relay event at this year’s Asian Games, adding another chapter to his long-running international career.
As he prepares to take the track in Aichi–Nagoya, his commitment to the national flag remains unchanged.
“The journey continues, and the honour of representing my country remains as strong as ever.”
For nearly two decades, Hassan Saaid has remained a prominent figure in Maldivian athletics. His fifth Asian Games appearance stands as a testament to his endurance, dedication and service to the national team, while the upcoming competition could also serve as a significant moment in the closing stages of one of the country’s most distinguished individual sporting careers.
