Tokyo, Japan: Maldives’ fastest man, Hassan Saaid, is set to compete in the World Athletics Championships for the fourth time in his career.
Saaid, 33, who recently clinched gold in the 100m at the Maldives National Championship, is set to compete at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, from September 13–21.
This will mark Saaid’s fourth appearance at the global event. He first represented the Maldives at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, China, followed by appearances in London, UK (2017) and Oregon, USA (2022).
Beyond the outdoor championships, Saaid also competed at last year’s World Indoor Athletics Championships in Tehran, Iran, and has taken part in the last two editions of the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships.
Widely regarded as the most successful individual athlete in Maldivian history, Saaid has an illustrious career decorated with numerous medals.
His crowning moment came in 2015, when he delivered the nation’s first-ever multi-sport event gold medal by winning the 100m at the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG). He further cemented his legacy in 2019, capturing gold in the 100m at the South Asian Games, a feat that remains the Maldives’ only gold medal in the event’s history.
