Revival Sports have completed a dominant campaign at the 50th National Badminton Tournament, securing both First Division team event titles and claiming every available gold medal in the division’s senior events.
The achievement highlights the academy’s growing strength, depth and consistency across Maldivian badminton.
Revival Sports capped off a remarkable tournament campaign by winning the First Division Men’s and Women’s Team Events, while all five Division 1 senior-category finals were contested exclusively by Revival Sports athletes. The all-Revival finals guaranteed the club every gold and silver medal across the five events.
The achievement marks a significant milestone for Revival Sports, whose players delivered a series of strong performances throughout the tournament and established the academy as a leading force in Maldivian badminton.
Unbeaten Revival Sports Claim Men’s Team Title
Eight teams competed in the First Division Men’s Team Event, with Revival Sports maintaining a 100 percent winning record throughout the competition before defeating Police Club 3–1 in the final.
Jelang Fajar gave Revival Sports an ideal start by defeating Ahmed Thoif Mohamed 15–5, 15–1 in the opening singles match. Surya Adi Pambudi then extended the team’s advantage with a straight-games victory over Prinyawat Thongnuam, winning 15–11, 15–11.
Police Club responded through Prince Dahal, who defeated Nibal Ahmed 15–8, 15–10 to reduce the deficit to 2–1. However, Revival Sports had already established a strong position, and the team secured the championship without requiring the remaining second doubles match to be played.
The victory completed Revival Sports’ unbeaten campaign in a men’s division contested by eight teams.
Women’s Team Complete Perfect Campaign
Revival Sports also produced a perfect performance in the First Division Women’s Team Event, where three teams competed for the title.
On 20 September, Revival Sports defeated C.S. Sports 3–0 to secure the women’s championship without needing to play the remaining two doubles matches.
Double Olympian Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq opened the final with a convincing 15–8, 15–10 victory over Yalvee Hussain Zuhury. Aminath Nabeeha Abdul Razzaq followed with a dominant 15–6, 15–1 win over Aminath Farha Faroozan.
Nurani Ratu Azzahra then completed the decisive victory by defeating Kiyan Adil Mohamed 15–2, 15–6.
The result secured Revival Sports’ second First Division team title and completed the academy’s clean sweep of the team events.
Haisham Completes Remarkable Comeback with National Title
One of the tournament’s most significant individual stories came from Haisham Ibrahim Ali, who claimed his first-ever National Men’s Singles title after completing a remarkable return to the top of Maldivian badminton.
Haisham’s journey has been defined by resilience and perseverance. After missing out on what he considered a fair opportunity to represent the Maldives National Badminton Squad ahead of the 2023 Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG), he stepped away from the sport and returned home.
Following a break from competitive badminton, Haisham returned in mid-July last year and began rebuilding his career from the ground up. He worked his way through the domestic ranks, secured important victories and eventually earned his first selection to the Maldives National Badminton Squad.
Just over a year after returning to competitive badminton, Haisham reached the biggest milestone of his comeback by winning the national men’s singles championship while representing Revival Sports.
His route to the final included a major semi-final victory over defending champion Zayan Zaki. Haisham defeated Zayan 15–6, 11–15, 15–4 to reach his first-ever Division 1 Men’s Singles final.
He faced fellow Revival Sports athlete and former National Champion Nibal Ahmed, who secured his place in the final after defeating Hassan Zayan Mohamed 16–14, 15–10.
The all-Revival final developed into a fiercely contested three-game battle. Haisham won the opening game 17–15, moving within one game of the national title. Nibal responded strongly, taking the second game 15–8 to level the contest and force a deciding game.
With the championship at stake, Haisham held his nerve to win the deciding game 15–12, securing his first National Men’s Singles title.
Haisham also reached the Men’s Doubles final alongside Mohamed Khalaf Imran, where they faced fellow Revival teammates Zayan Zaki and Nibal Ahmed. Zayan and Nibal won the final 15–7, 15–7.
Despite the doubles defeat, Haisham finished the tournament with a national singles championship and a silver medal in Men’s Doubles.
His achievement adds another chapter to a career that already includes an Atoll League Men’s Singles title in 2022. His return from stepping away from badminton to becoming National Men’s Singles Champion, while also earning a place in the national squad, represents one of the tournament’s most notable comeback stories.
Naba Reclaims National Singles Crown
Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq (Naba) once again demonstrated her dominance in Maldivian women’s badminton by defeating her twin sister, Aminath Nabeeha Abdul Razzaq (Naby), to claim her fifth National Women’s Singles title.
The final repeated the all-Revival women’s singles showdown from the recent Badminton Association Championship. As in that competition, Naba defeated Naby in straight games, winning 15–6, 15–12.
The victory takes Naba’s national women’s singles title tally to five. She previously won the championship in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022, before losing the 2023 final to Naby.
Naba’s latest victory saw her return to the top of the national singles podium and further strengthen one of the most successful singles records in Maldivian women’s badminton.
Naba and Naby Secure Sixth National Doubles Title
Naba’s success extended beyond the singles event. She and Naby won the Women’s Doubles championship, defeating fellow Revival Sports players Maisa Fathuhulla Ismail and Aishath Afnan Rasheedh 15–4, 15–8 in the final.
The victory marked the sixth time Naba and Naby have won the National Women’s Doubles title, further establishing their position as one of the most successful doubles partnerships in Maldivian badminton.
The sisters’ continued success in the event added another major achievement to their national tournament record.
Naba and Zayan Win Mixed Doubles Thriller
Naba then secured a third title in the Mixed Doubles event, partnering Zayan Zaki.
The pair faced Nibal Ahmed and Naby in another all-Revival final. Nibal and Naby took the opening game 15–11, but Naba and Zayan responded with a 15–13 victory in the second game.
The deciding game went down to the wire, with Naba and Zayan edging the contest 17–15 to claim the championship.
The dramatic victory completed Naba’s three-title campaign at the tournament, with the double Olympian winning the Women’s Singles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles events.
Complete First Division Dominance
With both team event titles secured and Revival athletes contesting all five Division 1 senior-category finals, Revival Sports completed a historic First Division campaign.
The academy’s players secured every available gold medal across the five senior events, while also claiming all corresponding silver medals through the all-Revival finals.
The results underline the strength of Revival Sports’ development programme, with established national players, emerging talents and successful partnerships contributing to a campaign defined by consistency and competitive excellence.
From Haisham Ibrahim Ali’s extraordinary comeback and first national singles title to Naba’s return to the top of the women’s singles podium, the 50th National Badminton Tournament provided several defining moments for Revival Sports.
The academy’s double team triumph and complete First Division gold medal sweep represent a significant achievement for the club and reinforce its growing influence on the future of Maldivian badminton.
