Male' Maldives: Revival Sports has launched a large-scale athlete development programme aimed at preparing its players for the 2027 Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG), with the club targeting strong representation in the Maldives national badminton team.
The initiative, officially introduced as the IOIG 2027 Development Project, is the biggest long-term investment undertaken by the club since its establishment and is focused on building a squad capable of competing for medals at the regional event.
Under the programme, Revival Sports aims to secure places for six male and four female athletes in the Maldives national badminton squad for the 2027 Games, while also contributing towards what the club hopes will be the country’s strongest-ever badminton medal performance at the IOIG.
A total of 14 athletes have been included in the development squad.
The men’s squad consists of Nibal Ahmed, Hussein Zayan Shaheed Zaki, Hassan Zayan Mohamed, Haisham Ibrahim Ali, Mohamed Khalaf Imraan, Ayyoob Azhar Mohamed, Ahmed Ayaan Bin Mohamed Solah, Adam Maheen Mohamed, Hoodh Bin Hamid and Mohamed Ahsan Ahmed.
The women’s division includes Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq, Aminath Nabeeha Abdul Razzaq, Maisa Fathuhulla Ismail and Aminath Shahurunaaz Moosa.
According to Revival Sports, the programme will feature overseas high-performance training camps, participation in BWF-sanctioned international tournaments, specialised strength and conditioning sessions, and separate singles and doubles training structures tailored to athlete development.
The club stated that the fully funded project has been designed to provide athletes with professional-level preparation and greater international exposure as part of the build-up to the IOIG.
Revival Sports also acknowledged the support received from several institutions in making the programme possible. The club expressed appreciation to Maldives Islamic Bank for its continued partnership, while also thanking the Ministry of Sports, Fitness, and Recreation for providing financial support through athlete scholarship assistance.
The Badminton Association of Maldives was also recognised for its support towards the project.
In addition, Revival Sports credited the wider badminton community and supporters who regularly use the courts at Revival Stadium, noting that community engagement and court bookings continue to directly contribute towards athlete development initiatives.
With preparations now officially underway, the IOIG 2027 Development Project is expected to become a key part of Revival Sports’ long-term vision of raising the standard of Maldivian badminton and strengthening the country’s competitiveness at regional level.
