The Maldives Police Service has said that preliminary investigations suggest a 9-year-old girl, who died from severe head injuries sustained in a tragic accident near Vinares Tower 7 on Hithigas Magu in Hulhumale' Phase 2, was either struck or run over by a car while she lay on the road.
Zeeva Sinan Ahmed, who was injured in the accident on the night of August 29, passed away in the early hours of September 1 while receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
According to the police, the investigation indicates that the accident occurred when a motorcycle attempted to overtake a car parked on the side of the road. As the driver of the parked car was attempting to enter the vehicle, the motorcycle tried to manoeuvre around him but struck him, causing the motorcycle to crash onto the road.
Police stated that another car traveling in the same lane was unable to stop in time and is believed to have hit or run over the 9-year-old girl after she fell from the motorcycle. Authorities added that forensic examinations are currently underway to confirm the exact circumstances of the impact.
In connection with the case, police have towed all three vehicles involved and suspended the licenses of the three drivers. Furthermore, the driver of the parked car has been fined, as it was discovered he was operating the vehicle while his license was already under suspension for a prior offense.
