Two individuals were hospitalized today following a collision between a car and a motorcycle at the intersection of Heenaamaa Hingun and Dhunburigas Magu in Hulhumale' Phase 2.
According to the police, the injured parties are a 62-year-old Maldivian man who was operating the motorcycle and his 24-year-old male passenger. Both sustained various injuries and are currently receiving medical attention at Hulhumale' Hospital.
This incident follows a separate, severe accident in Hulhumale' Phase 2 on Saturday night, which left a nine-year-old child with critical injuries. The child is currently on ventilator support at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
Police are investigating both accidents. In connection with the crash involving the nine-year-old, authorities have impounded two cars involved in the collision.
According to police statistics, 1,355 road accidents were recorded in Male' and on the bridge highway during the first six months of this year (January to June). This figure represents an average of 7.49 accidents per day.
