Two people have gone missing after a landing craft that set sail from K. Thilafushi sank near K. Gaafaru.
Police stated that a total of 10 people were travelling aboard the landing craft, 8 of whom have been found. The authority added that efforts are currently underway to locate the two missing individuals.
However, police have not yet disclosed any details regarding the missing individuals being searched for.
In a separate incident this morning, a safari vessel anchored off the coast of K. Maafushi broke its anchor during a sudden squall, drifted onto the island's outer reef, and was damaged beyond repair.
Additionally, due to the severe weather, numerous domestic flights and inter-atoll speedboat trips have been cancelled.
In light of the ongoing stormy weather across the Maldives, both the Met Office and security services have urged all sea travellers to exercise extreme caution regarding weather conditions.
