Ten people sustained injuries after a ferry traveling between Male' and Kudagiri lost control and crashed into the embankment yesterday.
The incident occurred around 10:45 am on Friday as the ferry was approaching Kudagiri, according to sources. Adhadhu understands that a young child suffered a head injury in the accident.
"As the ferry approached Kudagiri, the engine went off and it struck the jetty. A child of about six years old suffered a head wound," a witness reported.
Ferry services between Male' and Kudagiri are operated by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC). HDC did not respond to calls seeking comment on the incident.
According to sources, those injured in the crash were transported to Male' via an HDC speedboat. However, it remains unclear which hospital is currently providing them with medical treatment.
Adhadhu understands that the ferries used for the Male'-Kudagiri route have been affected by technical issues for some time. Sources stated that today's accident was a result of these persistent problems remaining unresolved for an extended period.
