More than 4,000 Maldivians have travelled to Saudi Arabia to perform the optional Umrah pilgrimage during the ongoing school holidays, the Islamic Ministry announced yesterday.
In a message shared with the media, the Minister Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed confirmed that over 4,000 Maldivians are currently on the pilgrimage and reported that they are all in good health.
"The number of Maldivians who have travelled for Umrah with various groups during this period exceeds 4,000. Everyone is doing well," Shaheem said.
Umrah packages offered by various Maldivian groups this month ranged between MVR 27,000 and MVR 30,000. These packages typically include round-trip airfare, accommodation, meals, and various guided tours.
Thousands of Maldivians travel for the Umrah pilgrimage during every school holiday. During the most recent Hajj season, 1,000 Maldivians travelled to Saudi Arabia to perform the obligatory pilgrimage.
