The Maldives government has strongly condemned the ballistic missile attacks launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels targeting civilian areas in Saudi Arabia.
In a statement released by the Foreign Ministry, the government asserted that such attacks, which endanger the lives and property of Saudi citizens, are unacceptable.
The Foreign Ministry further said that the Maldives views these attacks as a blatant violation of international law and a direct infringement on the independence and sovereignty of Saudi Arabia.
The Maldivian government reaffirmed its solidarity with the government and people of Saudi Arabia during this time. Furthermore, the government expressed its full support for any measures taken by the Saudi authorities to maintain the nation's safety, security, and sovereignty.
The government also highlighted the importance of sustaining the progress made toward regional stability. The Maldives called for prioritizing dialogue to maintain regional peace and to prevent a resurgence of conflict.
The Foreign Ministry’s statement added that utilizing diplomacy to resolve inter-state disputes is the most effective path toward establishing lasting peace.
While the Maldivian government has condemned the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, it has remained silent regarding the ongoing attacks against Iran amidst the escalating conflict in the Middle East.
