The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced that its Chairperson, former President Mohamed Nasheed, is scheduled to depart for the United Kingdom today.
According to the MDP, Nasheed is set to meet with officials from the UK Conservative Party and representatives of the UK Bar Council during this visit. He is expected to return to the Maldives on July 2.
This marks Nasheed’s first international trip representing the party since assuming the role of MDP Chairperson.
The MDP maintains a close relationship with the Conservative Party, with MDP delegates previously attending their party conferences. The Conservative Party also provides various forms of technical expertise and consultancy to the MDP.
The Conservative Party’s influence within the British political landscape has recently seen a decline. A substantial portion of the party’s traditional support base has shifted its allegiance to Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party.
