A formal request has been submitted to summon the senior officials of the Bank of Maldives (BML) before the Parliament’s State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Committee, following growing public concern over the bank's services.

In a letter addressed to the Speaker of Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, Galolhu North MP Mohamed Ibrahim highlighted three areas of public grievance.

The letter noted the difficulties citizens face in accessing US dollars for essential needs, the inability to process international payments for online services and overseas medical expenses, and the increasing frequency of service disruptions at the bank.

The MP emphasized that despite the escalating public outcry over these recurring issues, BML has allegedly attempted to obscure the reality by claiming no such problems exist. The letter stressed that an investigation into this matter has now become a necessity.

To address these concerns and seek a resolution, the MP requested that an SOE Committee meeting be scheduled as soon as possible and that the leadership of BML be summoned to provide an account to the committee.
