Abdul Matheen, the Managing Director of Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), resigned from his post on Sunday.
Matheen announced his resignation in a social media. However, he did not disclose the reason behind his decision to step down.
Matheen was appointed as the Managing Director of MWSC on November 28, 2023. In addition to his role as MD, he served as an Executive Director on the company's board. He previously served as a State Minister at the Environment Ministry.
His resignation follows that of Farhath Shaheer, the CEO of the state-owned fisheries company, MIFCO, who also stepped down from his position yesterday.
Furthermore, Mohamed Najah was removed from his post as the Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation last week. Mohamed Rishwan, the CEO of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), also resigned during the same period.
These significant changes to the leadership of state-owned enterprises come in the wake of the government’s setbacks in the Local Council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) elections held on April 4, as well as the referendum conducted alongside those elections.
