Fenaka Corporation Managing Director Major (Retd) Mohamed Najah has been sacked two days after the government's defeat in a public referendum and nationwide local council elections.

He was appointed to the post in December 2024.

Najah was appointed as Fenaka Managing Director following the resignation of his predecessor, Ibrahim Muaz Rasheed.

“They just informed me about the dismissal. I don’t know exactly why,” Najah told Adhadhu.

The state utility company created hundreds of jobs in the islands during the campaign for the recent elections in a bid to secure votes for the government.

Electricity and water services are provided by Fenaka in most of the islands across the country. However, Fenaka is one of the most poorly managed state companies.

The company's management has long been accused of corruption, which has disrupted utility services in the islands.
