Farhath Shaheer resigned today from his position as the CEO of the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO).

He was appointed to the post over a year ago, in March 2025. He took over following the dismissal of the company’s first foreign CEO, Dr Vitaly Lyubimov.

Farhath served as the Vice Chief of Defence Force of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) during the street protests that led to the forced resignation of President Mohamed Nasheed in 2012. He resigned from the military in February of that same year following the change in government.

During President Abdull Yameen’s administration, Farhath served as the CEO of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

The current administration has appointed several former high-ranking military officials to lead State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). Among them, Fenaka Corporation CEO Mohamed Najah was recently dismissed, while Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) CEO Mohamed Rishwan has also resigned.

MIFCO was established in 1993 following the corruption scandal involving the government’s former Fisheries Projects Implementation Department (FPID).
