Male' Maldives: Maziya Sports & Recreation Club sealed yet another chapter in their golden era after defeating Odi Sports Club 1–0 to clinch the Dhivehi Premier League title, completing the season unbeaten and securing their fifth consecutive league championship.
The triumph also marked Maziya’s sixth Premier League title, achieved fittingly in the club’s 30th anniversary year.
Under the guidance of Spanish head coach Luisma Hernandez, Maziya have continued to set the benchmark in Maldivian football. Since his arrival in earlier in this year, Hernandez has led the club to an impressive treble, winning the FAM League Cup, FA Charity Shield, and now the Dhivehi Premier League.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with "Adhadhu Sports", Hernandez described the recently concluded league campaign as one of the most challenging in recent memory, particularly following nearly two years without competitive football in the Maldives.
“It’s been a long and complicated season, with a lot of different situations,” Hernandez said. “Finally we have achieved the objective. I am very satisfied with the club, the fans, the coaching staff and with the players, the main protagonists of everything.”
Despite the difficulties, Maziya navigated the season without suffering a single defeat, a feat that further underlined their consistency and resilience at the top of Maldivian football.
For Hernandez, completing a domestic hat trick with Maziya holds special significance in his coaching career, as it adds another successful chapter to his growing international résumé.
“For my career it is important to keep adding international experience and contribute my work to compete and win,” he said.
“Behind countries like South Korea, Kuwait, Lithuania or Uzbekistan, Maldives now joins that list, with much merit in winning this treble.”
Maziya’s sustained success has often been attributed to the club’s strong organisational structure and stability, especially in contrast to several teams that have faced internal challenges in recent seasons. Hernandez expressed satisfaction with the club’s management and the collective effort behind the scenes.
“Maziya is a well-structured club,” he noted.
“Even after the AFC qualifying match in August, adjustments were made to reduce the squad, and together we learned to find a balance between veteran and young players. That is something I am very proud of.”
With the league title secured, Hernandez insists that the club’s ambitions remain high as more competitions lie ahead. He emphasised that Maziya will continue pushing for success while also focusing on player development.
“The league was the main objective and it has been achieved with excellent performance,” he said.
“Now Maziya will try to win all the games and keep adding titles, while improving the talent of the players, especially the youngsters. We are also working hard to continue providing players for the national teams, which will soon face important matches.”
Beyond the trophies and accolades, Hernandez ended on a deeply personal note, dedicating the historic title to those closest to him.
“Personally, I dedicate this title to my family, who support me at all times,” he said. “Thanks to Aloniya, Amir, Nicolás, Lucas and everyone who is always there for me.”
As Maziya celebrate another landmark achievement, Hernandez’s words reflect not only a season defined by dominance on the pitch, but also by unity, resilience and support beyond it.
