Six people arrested in connection with the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) rally on October 3 have started a hunger strike.
MDP Legal Director Ahmed Mauroof said the detainees began the hunger strike against their illegal detention and unfair treatment.
They were transferred from the Male' Custodial to Dhoonidhoo Prison earlier this week.
Mauroof accused the police of delaying the investigation and refusing to provide medical attention.

Addu City Councillor Hassan Zareer and Mohamed Khalif were also arrested from the rally. But Zareer was released without a remand hearing while Khalif was released on condition that he cooperate with the investigation.
Thousands of people flooded the Artificial Beach in Male' on October 3 and tried to peacefully march along Majeedhee Magu. But riot police used pepper spray and sonic weapons against the demonstrators.
